Buddy Ackerman is My Boss

I'm watching "Swimming With Sharks" and I'm instantly reminded of my manager,  boss, and the CIO.  There's this great line in the movie that goes something like, "It's tough now but it'll get better."  Empty promises.  There was a scene where Guy is working all night tearing up these Time magazines and Buddy gives him that speech.  Reminds me of my coworkers and myself trying to get through this crappy project.  All these promises of being protected and how I would get these opportunities.  It's amazing how accurate of a speech Buddy Ackerman gives in this movie.  Upper management provides nothing but lip service.  Although this movie is made specifically about a Hollywood producer, it really applies to many industries in terms of the themes presented here (ass kissing for growth, sleeping with executives to move ahead, empty promises to move people's agendas forward, forcing people to sacrifice their lives for the glory of the manager's ego, schizoid bosses who only are reminded of your issues rather than anything positive you've done, zero recognition, your bosses taking credit for your effort, in-fighting between the SAME TEAM).

This movie is truly gospel for anyone working in a backstabbing industry (film, finance, music, sports, etc.).  Watch the movie if you want to learn about reality.

A film like this, if taught in school, would probably do society more good than anything.  Maybe we'd have more farmers or people caring about the ecology, than those wanting fame and fortune.  Or at least, it might prevent more people from joining these industries or hopefully make them realize that they are entering something that will suck their soul from them.
