I've come to the conclusion that teenagers and below (especially in elementary school) are the best places to target advertisement, especially inducting them into using your products. It's known how companies like McDonalds and many fast food franchises employ heavy marketing campaigns towards young people in an effort to retain them later on in life. The obvious reason is the developmental stages of a person where the environment plays a heavy role in the person's values.
Food is a great example. Just compare Western food to say Japanese food. Ask either side which they prefer and you won't be shocked. What is shocking though is the religious fever in clinging to these older social values.
I find myself doing so. My supposed best memories were grade school. Maybe it was just a time of innocence, but product-wise, I tend to cling more towards that era than anything now. Movies, toys, food, games, music, etc. all are primarily derived from my socialization when I was a child.
These days cynicism towards anything new feels in truth like strong pangs of nostalgia. Hell, part of me wants to replay my days between 3rd - 4th grade when I didn't have to worry about crappy bosses, salary, recessions, politics and all these other worldly issues.
That aside though, my main point is that if you're going to get people hooked, do it early, when they're young, naive and cannot critically look past the packaging.
