I've ranted about this game not being able to install previously. However, since coming back to LA, I managed to receive a new system that allows me to play it. If you play the campaigns, the game play/speed is acceptable. Custom campaigns though....
I have to really question whether or not Ubisoft bothered to properly QA this game. I've read other boards saying similar things. But this game suffers immensely from the monstrous lag when one ends their turn.
I recently attempted to use the custom map generator to create a mega map with underground, set at impossible level with 8 players and the monster difficulty level being impossible. Well, the game is impossibly slow to really do anything meaningful. At this point, a single turn can take up to 20 minutes. My system digs deeply into swap and gave me a nice error message after exiting to the desktop that the swap partition was nearly full.
The basic game play is fun (well mostly because they simply used the Warcraft 3 graphics engine while using the HOMM 3 game engine). But the slowness of this game is ridiculous. None of the updates seem to address the core problem of an immensely slow turn based system.
It's a real shame that they took an excellent game series and turned it into a worse re-make than that Herbie movie.
