neat little optimization for firefox

for some odd reason, my ubuntu system is exceptionally slow in terms of networking over the internet compared to my XP box, especially when it comes to Firefox.  so i looked into it and found that there's a little optimization you can do:

  • type "about:config" in the URL address bar.
  • find the configuration for network.dns.disableIPv6.
  • set it equal to "true" (it should be false).
apparently, most routers can't handle IPv6.  I applied this to both my browsers on XP and Ubuntu and they definitely feel faster.
