TNA received the worst promotion and Impact received the worst show awards by the Wrestling Observer crowd recently. As if to reify that fact, the booking team for TNA's 01-29-2009 Impact show had indeed put together the worse show (which looked to be Vince Russo's handiwork). My theory is that Russo went out of his way to prove what the worst show could look like and simultaneously tell audiences that they won't lose any numbers in the ratings.
For the sake of Vince Russo finally receiving the ax, let's all pray that the ratings are dismal!
I think many wrestling fans want to see the promotion grow and do something better than the WWE. Yet when you watch crap like this, you just believe that they are attempting to commit suicide. I mean, I don't see how TNA's own management (some people who were wrestlers at one time) could approve of this garbage.
I don't want to recap the show because it's painful to remember. Let me say though by the time the main event showed up, I had fallen asleep twice on my couch. I was more interested in reading a book on software construction, a VERY DENSE book, than watching this crappy program.
It's really sad to see where this promotion has come at this point. Back in 2005 when I'd read results on this upcoming promotion and see some nifty X-Division matches, I thought, "Wow! This could be the future!" However, after Russo was brought in, the promotion just sunk. I don't blame Kurt Angle or any of the people. It's clear that one person is responsible. Just check out TNA's house shows where Russo apparently has no booking/storywriting influence.
To TNA: You MUST fire Vince Russo immediately. The fans had told you before what they think about him. You never should have brought him back. You had great opportunities to become the real alternative promotion, but you're killing yourself by letting a goofball poison the promotion. Everyone in the world knows this except your management. No one cares if he changed, found God, is a nice guy, etc. He does nothing for wrestling fans, especially your core fans. So prepare his walking papers and tell him to open up his video store once again where he belongs.
