TNA Impact 2009-04-16 - What????

The ending of TNA Impact simply made no sense.  I liked the fact that Christopher Daniels had received the trophy victory over Kurt Angle.  However, when they reversed the decision to give the victory to Kurt Angle, it made no sense.  Of course, the scenario was to swerve everyone; what else would TNA be without the gratuitous swerve per week?  Of course, we need to put doubt over Jeff Jarrett.  What would TNA be without constant doubt, especially over a guy that had a shady past and going into a PPV?  Of course, we needed to give the heels the start in the wanna-be Wargames match.  When has there ever been a scenario when the baby faces gain the start?

Forgeting for a moment all the hoopla and unchanging scenarios, the thing that made no sense was that Daniels' was not pinned.  They did not even show one shot of a double pin.  Normally, the match would at the very least be restarted and Kurt Angle could sneak in a pin.  Even that scenario would be moderately acceptable.

Instead, the angle was shot so horribly that it was obviously contrived to satisfy a poorly timed segment at the last minute or two.  Not to mention satisfy the stereotypical, unchanging scenarios of the wannabe wargames match.

Then you had Samoa Joe at the last second showing his face.  Why?  He did nothing.  This was just a very poorly done sell at the last possible second.  Jarrett himself did not looked convinced at what he had done, which made the segment come off extremely contrived.

Having surprises can be a good thing.  Here, the opportunity to change the format of how wargames is handled would've been a nice surprise/change.  Meaning, actually giving the babyfaces a win going into the match as well as giving Daniels the win.  Instead, the surprise was not a real surprise for the average TNA fan.  It was the typical falling expectations scenario where nothing ever changes and that people are cut at the last possible second.  One thing that TNA constantly fails to realize is that there are good expectations to fulfill and bad expectations to fulfill.  This was a clear example of the latter.

I'm not even going to rant again about the non-stop talking segments that lead nowhere.  I don't care if TNA's ratings are rising in a marginal manner either.  Their TV format and booking are so horrible that I don't mind missing them on occasion now.  You don't see people grow in that company and nothing changes for the better.

Hmmm...I wonder what channel ROH is on....
