2011, Technologies, Ayumi Hamasaki and a Twitter Prediction

I saw this picture on Sanspo.com of Ayumi Hamasaki with her new husband.  This picture is old by internet standards as Ayumi had already posted on Twitpic much earlier than Sanspo (and other sources) could have reported.  This goes to show now that even these online news sites are too slow to react against direct sources such a Twitter.  For instance, if you read 411mania's wrestling reports, quite a bit are simply summaries of individual wrestler's Tweets that highlight dramatic points.

So what does this all mean?  If we go along the theme of the last few blog's posts, it means that, in adding one more 2011 technology prediction, Twitter and other direct forms of real time social media are going to knock out most online reporting.  Groups like the AP are wrongly worried about Google; they should be looking at where their real bread and butter are going to get destroyed with social news, Twitter accounts from celebrities and other things that liberate people from the old channels of media.

Instead, companies like CNN are just going to become editorials in a sea where everyone is a news reporter with an opinion.  The privilege of the traditional news reporter is slowly dying out.  The only thing that can stop this event is a global law that is reinforced with some filtering technology.  But I think if any government, especially the US, imposes such a restriction, the masses will eventually rebel, considering that the internet is one of the last remaining bastions of freedom for mankind.
