Hit 85 today on my Tauren Paladin. I flew through the quests in the Twilight Highlands and the day before cleared out Uldum. I have to say that Uldum might be one of my favorite areas to quest in the game. After hitting 85, I finished up the main quests in the zone so that I could receive the remaining blue items and score some reputation points with the Dragonmaw Faction. My goal is start doing dailies in the near future to build up more reputation and gold as well as eventually purchase higher level gear since I have no plans for raiding nor doing Cataclysm instances.
I picked up one 346 iLevel boots and made a hefty purchase for a nice 359 epic shield on the auction house. So more than likely, I'll be maxed out gearwise on this toon for a while. In the meantime, I decided to take my paladin for a spin in Outlands to see what kind of damage I could do. I've been having a blast soloing the lower instances and making up the gold I lost from that shield purchase. Essentially, I'm missing 5 instances at the moment. None of them have caused me a single pain. My guy is just so overpowered. He rarely takes damage and never is in any serious trouble. I don't do monstrous pulls (it killed me just once) but I can manage quite a few mobs on me simultaneously. But with over 120k hit points, I have more health than many bosses at this stage.
Once I get these instances out of the way, my next goal will be to revisit Northrend and see how far I can solo. Heroic instances might prove to be trouble, but at least the vast majority of the instances shouldn't be too bad. I know another hunter was able to get up to the 3rd instance solo as an 80 beast master prior to Cataclysm. So certainly a Protection Paladin ought to handle quite a bit more at level 85. There's a few instances though that I probably won't be able to handle like the Occulous or Halls of Reflection. But I intend to just do the non-ICC instances for achievements. Of course, another thing to find out is how much gold I can make. The Outland instances tend to net me between 100-150 gold per run. If I can beat that number, I'll focus more on Northrend and find that sweet farming spot.
I would like to eventually do all the classic instances too. I've already done Shadowfang Keep and the entire Scarlet Monestary. However, I think it's a bit of a waste at the moment for my Paladin to solo those, unless I'm attempting to grab materials. The reason being that the repair costs is just too high for the amount of money I make per run. Certainly, those are easy but I'll hit those up when I'm running friends through them. That way I can double my efficiency by doing the quests, getting the achievements and helping some friends at the same time.
