World of Warcraft: Professions Coming Together

With my warlock hitting level 37 tonight, I decided to push his alchemy skill as high as I could so that I could obtain the Transmute Arcanite Bar capability. So what I did was utilize my druid, who is at level 60, and flew around spots like Arathi Highlands, the Hinterlands, Western and Eastern Plaguelands, to obtain (at first) a ton of Goldthorn as my auction house was both barren and overpriced on the material. Once he had enough skill points, I took my paladin out to Tanaris to pick up a few alchemy scrolls, including the aforementioned Transmute capability. Unfortunately, I was short in terms of spare Thorium so once again I took my paladin out to fly around the Un'Goro Crater to pick up some Thorium. Afterwards, I returned to Undercity to smelt it and sent it to my warlock to perform the conversions. Once I had the Arcanite Bars (where I fortuitously had kept all the Arcane Crystals since I first went mining for Thorium), I was able to produce around 20 Arcanite Bars, more than enough for several Arcanite Rods. I handed that back to my Paladin who created the Arcanite Rods and sent them back to my Shaman, possessing the enchanting skill.

Unfortunately, I was short on some materials and ended up buying just enough for him to produce the Enchanted Arcanite Rod. With the remaining Arcanite Rods, I put them on the Auction House at around 78 gold per. Already one sold so I almost was able to make up for the investment. However, I'm currently jammed on the Enchanted Felrod situation because it requires hard-to-obtain old school materials, namely Large Brilliant Shards. The auction house, last time I checked, only had two left.

Disappointed with my new barrier, I took my paladin to see if I could farm some additional mats for my warlock. My desiny: Blackrock Spire. This was the first time I would actually see it end-to-end. But wow, what an instance. Just huge. I did both the lower and upper spires and even managed to get the Jenkins title and achievement. From doing that, I obtained a large amount of rune cloth and greens (as well as other items that I ended up selling). All the blues though were BoPs so I could not easily disenchant any for materials. Instead, I made a slight bet that the greens would hopefully produce part of the materials. And with the remaining runecloth, I ended up making some cloth attire for further disenchanting.

Despite all this effort, not a single Large Brilliant Shard manifested. However, I don't feel that my efforts were for naught because I was able to do something I've never seen before and obtained a fun little title (and pet) in the process.

The moral of this story though is that I'm starting to see the fruit of my labor in having this many alts. Although I'm getting bored through my perpetual quest grinding, I am enjoying advancing my professions. Without a doubt, once these guys all hit 85, my effort in putting all this time and energy into my professions will become hugely profitable. Perhaps, I won't be able to do much raiding or even Heroics. However, if I play up to these guys' professions, I might be able to at least earn a ton of gold to purchase any epic level items on the auction house. It's going to take time, but maybe in a few patches, I'll have the equipment to do something fun.
